Anyone who wishes to teach history in a Georgia public school will first have to pass the GACE History Test to be certified. This test is pretty much an all-day affair, as it is broken down into two separate tests that must be taken back to back with a maximum time allowance of four hours.
Scores on the GACE History Test can range from a low of 100 to a high of 300, and the minimum passing score is 220. The tests are similar in format, each having 60 multiple-choice questions and two constructed-response questions. Eighty percent of the score is based on the multiple-choice segments, which are graded by computer. The written-response questions are graded by judges and count for 20 percent of the final score. The first test focuses on world history, while the second test covers U.S. and Georgia history.
