The GACE Media Specialist Test is slightly confusing for people planning on taking it. That's because it is not one test but rather two tests that must be taken on the same day, in one sitting. There is also a maximum time limit of four hours for completing both exams.
The first of the two exams focuses on information literacy skills and delivering information via a library media program. The second test centers on leadership and collaboration in the context of library media, and administration of library media programs. Each exam has an identical format, featuring 60 selected-response (multiple-choice) questions that make up 80 percent of the final test score.
The remaining 20 percent of the final score is determined by two questions requiring written answers. These are scored by judges, not by computer. A minimum passing score is 220 of a possible 300.
