The GACE Middle Grades Social Science Test, like the GACE exams for middle grades, consists of only one exam, unlike the two required on most GACE tests. This is by no means meant to imply that this exam is easier than others. On the contrary, it is quite wide ranging, covering everything in the broad categories of Georgia studies, social science skills, world regions, and U.S. history. Adding to the stress of taking it is the fact that there is a four-hour time limit to finish the test.
The final score will fall somewhere on the official scoring scale between 100 and 300. Eighty percent of that score is based on the 60 exam questions that are multiple choice and graded by computer. The remaining portion of the score is based on the two constructed-response questions, which are graded by judges. To pass the GACE Middle Grades Social Science Test requires a minimum final score of 220.
